A Message to Parents and Guardians
As a parent myself, I remember feeling a little overwhelmed several years ago when it was time for my teenager to learn to drive. Safety was (and still is!) my number one concern, and I recall being so grateful when I read about West Virginia’s Graduated Driver’s Licensing (GDL) Program. The GDL Program was not in place when I learned to drive, but over the years has statistically helped to lower accident, injury, and fatality rates state and nationwide when implemented.
One part of the GDL Program is recording at least 50 hours of drive time alongside a licensed adult, with 10 of those hours being in the evening at dark. When I heard about the RoadReady app and how easy it makes recording those miles/times, as well as offering additional guidance to parents, I knew this would be an invaluable resource.
Another extremely useful part of this booklet is the way each skill is broken down to ensure that your teen masters the skill and continues to build safe driving habits. Additionally, real-world facts and information are included throughout — not to alarm, but to really educate and equip your driver for every day driving scenarios.
Please read through this short booklet, and download the easy and convenient RoadReady app. You’ll be able to focus on your teen’s driving and staying safe, while the app will record your miles in an accessible and printable format that you can bring with your teen when they are ready to take the skills test.
