Farm Bureau Insurance Sponsor Message

We’ve all been there, counting the days until you were old enough to put your driving skills to the test. Getting a driver’s license is a rite of passage that can’t come fast enough for teenagers anxious to take to the open road. As the parents and caregivers of those teen drivers, you’re likely just as anxious, but for different reasons. Watching your precious loved one drive away on a journey of newfound independence is both exhilarating and terrifying.

As one of the leading auto insurance providers in South Carolina, Farm Bureau Insurance® is in the business of taking a little bit of the worry out of life by providing a sense of security for when things don’t go as planned. We are also in the business of doing all we can to make South Carolina roads safer for everyone. We see great value in The Parent’s Supervised Driving Program and are proud to partner with the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles to make this guide available to you. Please use it as a teaching tool to help your teen develop lifelong safe driving habits. By doing so, you can take comfort knowing you’ve done all you can to instill the proper mindset each time your teenage driver climbs behind the wheel.

Promoting highway safety has never been more important. Despite the enhanced safety technology in today’s automobiles, fatalities and auto crashes are on the rise. Nationally, fatal accidents increased 8 percent in 2015 according to the National Safety Council – the largest increase in 50 years. In South Carolina, the number of injury collisions caused by distracted driving has increased every year since 2013.

Turning this trend around starts with you! Set a good example for your teenage driver. The Parent’s Supervised Driving Program is a great refresher for even the most experienced driver. Encourage your teenage driver to practice the safe driving skills outlined in this guide, and use it to document their progress. With your support, your teen will become a safe and successful driver.

On behalf of Farm Bureau Insurance, I wish you and your family safe driving!
