A Message to Parents & Guardians

This guide focuses on the critical role of the parent in the teen driver education process and encourages parents and teens to drive together in a variety of weather conditions and in unfamiliar settings, be it rural roads, highways, in cities and in other heavy traffic situations. The manual’s design provides important instructional modules which contain information on how and where to complete the lesson for maximum success. Allowing your teen to spend as much time as possible behind the wheel will increase the development of their driving skills.

By offering an enhanced supervised driving experience, we hope that parents and guardians will extend the supervised driving period beyond the state requirement of 50 hours.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of teen deaths. Roadway safety in New York is dependent on the behavior of each individual driver. Your commitment to assist your child in maximizing this learning experience is commendable. The time you spend teaching your teen how to drive might just save their life.
